Fiber-cement and Vinyl Siding FAQ General FAQ

What makes fiber-cement siding so unique?
Fiber-cement siding is designed to last a lifetime. Fiber-cement is five times the thickness of vinyl. It will withstand winds up to 130mph, has a 50-year warranty, is dimensionally stable, and will not sag or lose its shape over time. Fiber-cement is resistant to fire, pests, termites, rot, woodpeckers, carpenter bees, and squirrels, and extreme weather.

What colors can fiber-cement be painted?
It can be painted any color. Fiber-cement has the natural look of wood and has great paint retention

Is fiber-cement siding hail resistant?
Yes. Fiber-cement is hail and wind resistant. It does not damage easily from wind-blown debris.

Is fiber-cement siding resistant to mold?
Absolutely. Fiber-cement is sealed to keep out moisture. The coatings contain ingredients that protect against mold growth. If dirt or debris are splattered against the siding, the surface cleans easily with regular water.

Should I have my windows replaced when I replace siding?
Yes. If you need to replace your windows, it is a great time to replace them while the siding is removed. At the same time, it is also a great time to correct any window insulation issues.

Do you place the soffit and fascia with fiber-cement products?
If the soffit and fascia is in good repair, we do not replace them unless noted in your contract. However, most of our products include replacement at the same time that new siding is being installed. It also depends upon the condition of the existing products and the desires of the homeowner.

Which type of siding is better: Vinyl or Metal?
A full 97% of all siding sold today is vinyl siding. Metal, although durable, becomes very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. Unlike vinyl siding, metal siding will easily dent during hailstorms.

How far will your travel to look at my home improvement project and issue an estimate?
For most jobs we will easily travel up to 60 miles (or about an hour in drive time).

On what types of homes do you traditionally install fiber-cement?
Fiber-cement siding is appropriate for almost any home or building. We can even use fiber-cement to remodel the exterior of historic homes and buildings where maintaining the original architectural features are of utmost importance. Fiber-cement siding complies with the requirements of the National Registry.

Do darker siding colors fade more quickly than lighter shades?
No, they do not. With current technology, all colors are durable pigments and carry a lifetime warranty.

Does the thickness of the siding matter?
Yes. Thickness and quality of vinyl siding is directly related to performance.

What are the differences between aluminum, vinyl, and steel siding?
Aluminum siding came out in 1946. Aluminum doesn't rust, corrode, or deteriorate. Although a great product for the time, it is a soft building material and will dent with hail. Steel siding came out in 1952. Steel is tougher and more durable than aluminum, but it will still rust over time and dent with strong hail storms. In 1957, vinyl siding hit the market and revolutionized the siding industry. Unlike metal sidings, vinyl does not conduct heat, cold or electricity. Vinyl siding can vary in quality. The top end of the vinyl siding product lines will outperform any of the others.
